A Creative Little Snack for A Very AI World

AI is everywhere. Whether you’re excited or overwhelmed by it, this month I want to share something that might help you tap into what makes you…you, as technology around us continues to evolve.

And it can start with just a few minutes.

I’m talking about giving yourself a nibble of a little creativity snack.

Do you ever go through waves of wanting to create? Moments when inspiration just... shows up? For me, sometimes they’re there, and sometimes it’s nowhere to be found. There's real merit to trusting your intuition and waiting until creating feels easy. And there are times when, even without interest, inspiration, energy, or time, showing up anyway matters just as much.

I’ve been in a creative slump, there have been juuuuuust a couple of other things tugging at my attention and energy and painting for fun has paid the price. Last week, even though I was still not feeling overcome by inspiration, I decided to pick up the delightful and completely underused fancy travel painting set my husband gave me for Christmas.

The evening sky out the back door called to me; I’ve had this idea to paint the sky around the same time every day for a year but have never done it. So I set a timer for 15 minutes and started. One messy, quick sketch of the sky later, and I felt more myself. The next night I looked at the sky…and didn’t paint. But the day after that I painted what I remembered.

Even if this isn’t the beginning of a year-long project, it’s felt good to do these quick paintings. They’re not great. They’re not perfect. They’re just me setting a timer for 15 minutes and doing a dang painting. A creative little snack. AI might be moving fast, but it can’t create the grounding power of making something imperfect, human, and creative. That part is still just ours.

TL;DR If you’re feeling overwhelmed, one human thing you can do is to create. Set a timer for 15 minutes and practice something creative to give yourself a boost. You’re unlike anything else in this universe. You deserve it.

Thank you for your collaboration, humor, and what you do to make the world a better place.

Cheers,
